About Us

The South Florida Regional Extension Center is an acknowledged leader in navigating health care providers through the complexities of health information technology. The SFREC is a non-profit vendor neutral organization that provides assistance and guidance to healthcare professionals in selecting, implementing and attesting to Meaningful Use of their electronic Health Records.

Established in 2010, the SFREC is one of 62 Regional Extension Centers (REC) formed nationwide by the Department of Health and Human Services Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) of Information Technology. Each of the RECs received federal stimulus funds to develop and implement initiatives to help providers select, successfully implement and meaningfully use certified electronic health records to improve the efficiency, quality and value of health care. The SFREC serves the health care provider community in eight counties: Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, Martin, Palm Beach, Indian River, Okeechobee and St. Lucie.

Critical to the success of the SFREC is the guidance of its Steering Committee. Comprised of a broad coalition of key volunteer partners representing not only health care, but also business, education, nonprofit and government entities, this group of community stakeholders, share in the commitment to transform the delivery of health care services and improve patient outcomes through the use of information technology.

The SFREC team is staffed by professionals with a vast body of knowledge and expertise on which the health care community can draw as we move forward in pursuing a variety of strategic pathways, initiatives and services to improve the access to, quality of and more affordable care. Health Information Technology is now recognized as one of the key elements to transforming our health care delivery system and achieving these goals.
